At the age of 24, Mr S Viswanathan (SV) should have been among the youngest editors, when he founded MOBILE, a transport monthly and TRADEWHEEL, a magazine on two wheelers. In 1968, he launched Industrial Economist, the business fortnightly.
His favourites among a wide range of subjects include agriculture, automobile, energy, fertilisers, fiscal policy, nuclear power, steel and transportation. He has been covering dozens of public sector projects all over India and abroad, ranging from atomic power plants to coal mines to fertiliser, power and steel plants, automobile units and oil platforms regularly since mid-Sixties.
SV is probably one of the few journalists who have been invited to participate in the annual Economic Editors’ Conference, held at Delhi, for over three decades at a stretch. SV has also been lending his expertise to the All India Radio, BBC and television channels, apart from writing in The Hindu, and vernacular dailies.
This Chennai-vaasi is married to Padma Viswanathan, who is a partner at both home and office (she manages finance and administration at ECL). They have two children and twin grand children.
