Intellectual of rare qualities

He was a rare type of an intellectual. He was close to the Paramacharya of the Kanchi Math, to Rajaji and to M S Subbulakshmi–T Sadasivam. Well-versed in the tenets of the Hindu religion, he was a sharp observer and commentator on the issues of the day. Qualified as a lawyer, he worked in the legal department of LIC. He was instrumental in constructing the  Shiva temple at Ponnur near Mayiladuthurai.

In the death of K Vedamurthy (KV) the nation lost an intellectual of vast and diverse personality. Rajaji spotted him as a brilliant young man. KV became a devout follower of Rajaji and for years he had written on his interactions and estimate of this towering personality.

Intensely religious, KV wrote on Hinduism with special reference to the sayings of Kanchi Paramacharya. I remember his filing a report from New York on the remarkable initiative of technocrat Yegnasubramanian who received over 100 Vedic Pandits from India for the consecration of the temple at Bridgetown, New Jersey.

KV mobilised resources needed for the construction of the Kanchi Maha Swami Mani Mandapam at Orikkai  and helped celebrate the Kumbabishekam. Modest and humane KV has been a rare intellectual with such varied interests. IE shares the KV family’s grief.
