Android app to help paralysed people

Pritesh Sankhe, a final year electrical engineering student of IIT-Gandhinagar, has come up with an android application that will help people afflicted by paralysis to easily operate their wheel chair  with better mobility. The app uses the gestures and verbal commands from the paralysed person to regulate the mobility of the wheel chair, which is achieved by incorporating robotics technology. Sankhe also told that the app will learn the regular routes of the user and that the app gets activated just by using verbal commands.

Sankhe added: “today smartphones are everywhere and people are using it innovatively. Efforts have been made to improve human-robot interaction but, at the moment, the best example of this is an on-board computer for paralysed people. How about shrinking the computer to the size of a smartphone and employing it for day-to-day tasks?” The app is still in the prototype phase but soon will be developed into a full-fledged system.
