Making ‘my Amaravati’...

So, Chandrababu Naidu launched the new capital at Amaravathi with grandeur. After Chandigarh, one is going to witness the construction of a new, large city from scratch. With his penchant for technology and proven ability, Naidu will put in his best efforts to build this capital city as a smart city. The involvement of experts from Singapore is sure to  help. To work on the greenfield site will provide a great deal of freedom and flexibility. A capital on the banks of a perennial river is yet another plus factor.

Naidu can be expected to access funds from across the globe and also invite MNCs to invest in a big way. His online campaign, My Brick, My Amaravathi, a fund-raising platform in which e-bricks can be purchased from Rs 10 upwards was welcomed. As of 21 November 2015, the campaign saw a collection of Rs 4.93 crore.

However, the finances of the state are not in great shape. There is also the difficulty of the Centre to provide large scale funding due to its own resource constraints. The slow growth of the economy, the massive increases in expenditure as a result of the implementation of the one rank one pension scheme for defence personnel, the 23.66 per cent increase in the emoluments of Central government employees, higher devolution to states consequent upon the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission and the clamour for larger resources from every state would make it difficult for the NDA-II government to heed fully to the demands of AP.

The bifurcation also resulted in a skewed distribution of development areas with much of these going to Telangana. One hopes for more active involvement of the rich Andhra NRIs working abroad.
