Champions of change

A glittering array of emerging entrepreneurs and the top brains of the government, both official and political, had a day and half of close interaction in Delhi in the second week of August. A Champions of Change conclave organised by NITI Aayog gathered together the gen-next leadership in the fields of industry and business and sought out their views on a list of areas of interest to India. It was billed as an ‘interactive’ session and indeed proved to be, thanks to Prime Minister Modi. His Gujarat style teleconference experiment was repeated here to great effect when his cabinet answered questions from the elite entrepreneurs.  NITI Aayog had put its full weight behind the effort and drew praise for the way it organised the interaction.

The 200 plus participants were divided into six groups to debate and discuss six different topics. These were: (1) A new India by 2022 (focus area: economy); (2) Digital India: Reaching the last mile (focus: financial services and inclusion); (3) Energising a sustainable tomorrow (focus: energy); (4) Health and Nutrition (healthcare) and (5) Education and skill development (focus: online learning) and (6) Soft power: Incredible India 2.0 (travel and tourism). From their prepared position papers and discussions during the interaction, the group participants wrote down their recommendations under the six heads and these were brought out as a synopsis. Besides their deliberations, the participants also got an opportunity to raise questions to individual ministers, most of whom were present during a dinner meeting on the first day.
